1. All 4-H members must abide by the regulations governing 4-H projects in Grand County to be eligible to show. Only FFA members who would be eligible to compete under 4-H rules will be eligible to compete in this division. No entry fee for 4-H and FFA Classes
2. Please notify the Extension Director by July, 14 of the number of beef, sheep, swine, poultry and rabbits to be exhibited, and other entries.
3. Animals that are sick or unsafe may be sent home. Otherwise, livestock exhibits should remain until the release time of Sunday at 2 pm, unless released early by the superintendent or extension director. All animals must be removed by Sunday at 7 pm.
4. Should it become necessary to administer medications or treatment of any kind at the fair, a veterinarian shall be notified and shall supervise the treatment.
5. The following are termed unethical practices; injecting show animals with body “fill-ins”, any unethical doctoring, or the alteration, changing, defacing or any modification of the markings of show animals and the anatomical structure of an animal; use of ice packs or other refrigerants to alter the quality or finish of the animal; use of muzzles and hotshots. Any exhibitor found guilty of the above will forfeit all placings, awards, premium monies and sale money.
6. Members must be responsible for care and feeding while on the fairgrounds. If stalls are not cleaned daily by noon, $25 per day may be withheld from premium money, at the discretion of the superintendent.
7. Additional classes may be added if the superintendent feels they are needed.
8. Members must show their own animals unless they have two or more animals in the same class, then another Grand or Summit County 4-H member can show the extra animals. Exceptions to this rule for injury, illness, etc., must be made prior to the show.
9. All animals must be clean and dry before tag-in, and lambs must be shorn. Pigs ear tags must be clean.
10. There is no limit to the number of pigs that a member may own as a 4-H project. However, only three hogs per member may be shown at the Middle Park Fair.
11. To enter the ewe lamb and/or breeding gilt classes at the Middle Park Fair, the animals must be enrolled as a breeding project, and may not be shown in the market lamb or market swine classes.
12. Ram lambs or cryptorchids are not eligible to show as market lambs. No testicles may be present including short scrotums.
13. The champion Middle Park Raised steer must be a calf that was born and raised in Grand or Summit County.
14. A formal protest must be made in writing to the protest committee on the day of the alleged infraction. Such protests must state plainly the cause of the complaint or appeal and be accompanied by a $25 fee. The protest committee will consist of the president of the fair and rodeo board, the Extension Director and the superintendent of the division involved. If a veterinary exam or other testing is required, fees incurred above $25 must be paid by the protester.
In order to appeal sale committee issues the following protocol is to be followed:

Exchanging Animals: Once the sale lineup is established, there is to be no swapping of animals. When the animal is sold, this is the point of ownership change and the sale committee assumes NO responsibility for any animal NOT designated for slaughter.
15. All livestock placing first or second in a market class shall show for champion and reserve champion with the following exception: If an entrant wishes to withdraw, he or she shall forfeit all prizes and monies won by that animal, and others in that class shall be moved up on placing. If an animal is withdrawn, the superintendent should be notified immediately.
16. The second place animal in a class from which the champion was selected is eligible to show for reserve champion.
17. All champions must show in the Livestock Parade of Champions or forfeit all premium monies.
18. All 4-H and FFA members must show their own project animals in showmanship and round robin classes.
19. The Round Robin competition is limited to the following species: beef, sheep, swine, horses and goats. There will be no blank animals in the Round Robin competition. Additional exhibitors will be moved up at the discretion of the Round Robin superintendent.
20. The sifting committee is the sale committee plus the judge for each show. They will decide on the number of animals to be sold at the sale and have the right to bar any animal from the sale. NO SALE SLOTS ARE GUARANTEED. Maximum number of animals per specie per show will be: Beef - 25; Lambs - 25; Swine - 40; Goats - 10. Maximum numbers of poultry and rabbits per show will vary.
21. An exhibitor is limited to sell only one steer or heifer, lamb, swine, goat and one pen of rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese or turkeys with the following exceptions: Should the champion and reserve champion be owned by one exhibitor, both will sell.
22. Members will not be allowed to sell both a heifer and a steer at the sale.
23. The champion and reserve champion market steer, swine, goats and lambs at the fair must sell at the sale.
24. Orphan lambs, feeder steers, feeder lambs, feeder pigs or overweight hogs are not eligible for the sale.
25. All goats will be sold by the head.
26. An animal may not be pulled out of the sale line up once entered.
27. All youth must designate which animal will go to the sale by two hours after the end of the show. No changes will be made to the sale line up after the deadline.
28. Five percent of the sale price of each animal or minimum of $15 will be subtracted to defray all advertising cost, pictures, frames or other expenses as authorized by the Junior Livestock Sale Committee.
29. All steers sold at the fair need to have a brand inspection.
30. Sale animals must be washed and dried by 2:30 pm on Saturday so they can be numbered.
31. 4-H and FFA record books are due the first Friday in September. If a member does not complete a record book after exhibiting the project, the member can not enroll in the same project the following year. A complete record book is determined by scoring 70% or better.
32. Over Age Animals: Over age animals will be disqualified.
• Goats: All market goats must have their milk teeth in normal positions at time of check-in, any goat having lost one or both of their milk teeth will be disqualified.
• Lambs: All market lambs must have their milk teeth in normal positions at time of check-in, any lamb having lost one or both of their milk teeth will be disqualified.
• Market Beef: No animal born before January 1, of previous year will be eligible to show. The dentition process may determine age. All animals must have both temporary central incisors (baby teeth) in place. Any evidence of tampering with tooth development will be cause for disqualification. The dentitions’ decision will be final. (Rule starting in 2009)
• Hogs: All Market Hogs must be born during current year of fair.
33. Unmanageable Animals: The Superintendent and/or judge with executive fair board member approval may disqualify any animal deemed unmanageable.
34. Horns: Exhibitors will be required to have horns tipped, blunt, or removed on all goats before arrival on the grounds. Removal of horns on grounds is NOT permitted.
ALL STEERS ENTERED MUST BE DEHORNED. Any re-growth of horns should be rasped and made presentable for the show
35. Goat weights: Minimum show weight will be 50 lbs. (starting in 2009)
36. Enrollment Deadlines: In order to participate in the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo a 4-H Member must be enrolled by May 1st of the current 4-H year. Other deadlines for participation in projects may exist (i.e. steer tag in dates are earlier).
37. Member in Good Standing: 4-H members must be Members in Good Standing determined by the CSU Extension Office in order to be eligible to show at the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo in 4-H events.
38. Scrapies Tags: All intact males and female sheep and goats must have a Scrapies Tag to be eligible for show at the Middle Park Fair and sale in the junior livestock sale. This Scrapies Tag must be in place at the initial Tag In during May.
39. Horse Identification: All 4-H horse members must identify their 4-H project horses before June 1st of the current year. A current year’s Horse ID Certificate must be on file in order to be a 4-H member in good standing and participate in the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo 4-H Horse events.
40. Replacement Animals: In the event an exhibitor’s only animal in a species dies prior to the fair the youth may replace that animal before the given deadlines with the approval of the Extension Director and the Fair board Superintendents. The deadlines are 60 days before show for sheep, goats, and pigs; and 120 days for market beef. Prior approval must be made before an animal is replaced.
41. Awards and premiums not picked up from the Extension Office 60 days after the event, they will be forfeited. It is the responsibility of the contestant to know if they have received an award.
42. Protective Headgear Policy
A hunt cap (preferably SEI or ASTM approved) with the safety harness fastened in place is required in over-fence classes and gymkhana events and activities. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian of the 4-H member to see that the headgear worn complies with such standards and is in good condition. The state 4-H office encourages the use of safety helmets in all equine events.

General Rules Back to the Top
1. All entries for exhibit are limited to Middle Park, Grand and Summit Counties, except where otherwise specified.
2. When there is but one exhibitor competing for a premium, the judges may give an award, first, second and third as well as the merits warrant.
3. All threshed grain exhibits shall be grain that has been threshed since September 1 of the previous year.
4. All livestock exhibits must stay on the fairgrounds until 2 pm Sunday, except horse classes
5. All possible diligence will be exercised to prevent loss or injury of animals and articles on exhibition, but it is hereby stipulated that the fair and rodeo board will be in no way responsible for loss or injury to any entry or person.
6. The protest committee will consist of the president of the fair and rodeo board, the county extension agent and the superintendent of the division involved.
7. Classes may be added if the superintendent feels there is a need for addition classes.
8. Premiums will be paid in cash in the Exhibit Hall. All other premiums will be paid by check according to the secretary’s books only.
9. All political banners, posters and advertising shall be limited to the candidate’s own booth or the party booth. Any sponsor banners will be displayed during the sponsored event only and limited to a size under 3’ x 5’.
10. Alcohol allowed only in designated areas.

Obedience Classes
SUB-NOVICE -A First year handler, first year dog.
SUB-NOVICE -B Second year project members with the same dog and must be the youth and dog team that showed the previous year in Sub-Novice A (on leash)
SUB-NOVICE -C Experienced handlers with a first year dog only. This class will be judged at a higher skill level than Sub-Novice A or B.
NOVICE -A Open to members with no prior experience in Novice dog training.
NOVICE -B Open to experienced members in their 2nd year or more of Novice 4-H dog training and who have never received a blue ribbon at a previous State Fair in this class. Handlers entering B Classes will be judged at a higher skill level (handler errors) than handlers entered in Novice A classes.
GRAD-NOVICE A Open to members with no prior experience in Grad-Novice Dog Training.
GRAD-NOVICE B Open to experienced members in their second year or above in Grad-Novice Dog Training.
OPEN AND UTILITY Open to those members who have completed the above classes.

Horse stalls are available on a limited basis for fair participants. Exhibitors should register for stalls in writing with fair entry forms by July 14th. All rabbits must be in the barn by 8 pm, Tuesday of fair week. All breeding stock rabbits must pure stock.
All rabbits must be tattooed at fair time. If there are less than three entries per class, the superintendents may assign them to a different class.

The standard of the American Rabbit Breeder Association will be used to determine class designations except for meat pens.
Meat pen entries must be between 3 1/2 and 5 lbs. There will be two, types of meat pens; pure and mixed breeds.

Showmanship Round Robin
Friday, August 8 at 9 am in Show Arena

All first and second place winners from the beef, sheep, horse, swine and goat shows in the senior, intermediate and junior divisions of the showmanship contest will bring the animals shown to the show ring. Each winner will have the opportunity to show each class of livestock.
Notice: This will start at 8 am SHARP. Any person qualified who is not at the showing and ready to compete at this time will be disqualified.
Champion and Reserve Champion Junior, Intermediate and Senior Showmanship Awards will be presented prior to the Junior Livestock Sale.
